Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between therapeutic and deep tissue massage?
Therapeutic massage is a results-focused treatment designed to address pain, tension, and restricted movement. A variety of techniques may be used depending on your needs to help restore proper muscle function and improve overall mobility

Deep tissue massage is a specific technique used within therapeutic massage that focuses on applying slow, firm pressure to deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension and adhesions

What does a massage cost?
Rates start at $115 an hour for 60 minutes

Do you accept insurance?
No, Baseline Massage Therapy does not accept or bill insurance

What should I wear for my appointment?
Dressing comfortably is ideal, but you will be dressing down for your session, so it's truly up to you

Should I take off my underwear?
If I had to guess, I'd estimate that half my clients leave their underwear on and the other half remove it. It truly makes no difference to me one way or the other, so always dress to your comfort level

How often should I get massages?
The answer depends on many factors: Your physical condition, your mental and emotional health, and (of course) your circumstances and budget. Once a week is ideal, though it's understandable that it’s not possible for everyone. Even if you can commit to once a month, you’re sure to notice positive changes in your physical health and stress levels

What should I do if I feel uncomfortable during my massage?
Speak up! We’re intuitive people, but we’re not mind-readers. Always let me know if you need more or less pressure, if you’re too hot or too cold, or if you need to use the restroom

What if I fall asleep, snore, or pass gas during my massage?
Look — it happens. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. In fact, these are all signs that your body is relaxing, which is the primary goal of getting a massage!

What if I'm sore the next day?
Some soreness should be expected; however, you will never leave one of my sessions and wake up feeling like you've been run over or like you have the flu (those are signs the therapist went beyond what your nervous system could tolerate and now you're paying for it...)
Generally, staying hydrated with electrolyte packs will take care of most muscle soreness the next day. Soaking in a warm Epsom salt bath will also help your muscles rest and recover. Don't do anything strenuous after your massage (workout, play sports, help a friend move - yes, these are all true stories)

Can massage help with TMJ pain?
Yes. Massage therapy can help relieve tension in the muscles surrounding the jaw, neck, and shoulders that often contribute to TMJ discomfort. Targeted techniques can reduce muscle tightness, improve jaw mobility, and help decrease associated symptoms such as headaches, jaw pain, and facial tension
